A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – A Stroll Around Epcot

By Krista Joy

This week let’s take a stroll around Epcot! I hear the incredible sounds of Jon Secada and the Garden Rocks Concert Series, we should probably go investigate that. Have you heard about the amazing frozen drinks you can find near the Morocco Pavilion? Let’s go try some of those! Finally we can wrap it up by visiting a brand new exhibit at the Flower and Garden Festival this year. We’ll see all this in more in this edition of A Walk in the Park: WDW

Hey it’s a good thing we got this room with a beautiful view at Wilderness Lodge! The new kiddie splash pad is looking great, isn’t it?

We can’t do all this cruising around Epcot on an empty stomach.  Let’s head downstairs and kick off our walk with a delicious lunch at Whispering Canyon Café. Our server highly recommends the open faced tuna sandwich – and she was right!! It is delicious!

No visit to Whispering Canyon is complete without a bottomless milkshake.  All you can drink in your choice of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or caramel flavors? Count me in. I think I am in a caramel mood today. Mmmm…

All fueled up and ready to go? Let’s head over to Epcot. We will begin with a quick stop in the Art of Disney Store, near the entrance. I love seeing what’s new from one of my favorite Disney Master Artists, Kevin-John. Here are prints of a gentleman and a dog that you might recognize. Beautiful job Kev!

Do you hear that? The Garden Rocks Concert Series is in full swing! Let’s head over to the America Pavilion to check it out.

We are in for a real treat because today’s artist is none other than the amazing Jon Secada. I hear him sing and it’s like I am back in high school again. So fun!

There are some amazing slushies that are now available near the Morocco Pavilion. It’s a warm day and I bet they will really hit the spot about now! Here is the full menu – which one would you choose?

The Sultan’s Colada is delicious. It tastes much like a Pina Colada with just a hint of Almond Liquor added to give it a special touch.

The Habibi Daiquiri – with its rum, Strawberry and Orange Blossom Water is really fruity and refreshing!

Let’s go ahead and sample the Moroccarita as well. The crisp taste of Vodka, Lemon, Lime Juice and Triple Sec is just a terrific combination.

Next up, is something I have always wanted to try ever since we heard it was coming to Flower and Garden. Are you ready for this? It’s a push pop…for adults.  It’s available at the Fleur de Lys booth.

How can you go wrong with Grand Marnier Peach Raspberry, Vodka, and Iced Tea? I’m here to tell you – you just can’t.

Yes this has to be one of my all-time favorite treats from the Flower and Garden Festival. Can you tell I’m enjoying it a little? It is sticky and will drip down your arm in the heat so be sure to grab some napkins!

Today is the first day they are running previews of the Tomorrowland movie over at the Imagination Pavilion. Let’s go check that out next!

This is an actual suit worn by George Clooney in the movie. It is so cool to see it up close in the preview area before we enter the theater.

This movie is going to be absolutely incredible!! Speaking of movies, Inside Out is coming to theaters this summer.  Epcot really did a brilliant job with tying it into the festival by placing a beautiful garden nearby that features plants that inspire your emotions.

I am particularly fond of this one for some reason.

The sad plants come in shades of blue.

Fearful plants aren’t really all that scary.

Disgusting Plants are stinky but still quite beautiful if you ask me!

This one made me laugh because it reminded me of someone I used to know. What a hothead! These plants will burn your mouth and nose.

Finally we end with a beautiful mix of all of these emotional plants.

I love the beauty of Epcot this time of year…

See you next time Spaceship Earth! What a great day we had at Epcot!

A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – Disney Springs

By Krista Joy

Let’s take a walk around Disney Springs to check out some of the new storefronts, Goofy’s Candy Company, the awesome new amphicars at The Boathouse, and top it all off with a flight in the largest helium balloon in the world! We’ll see all this and more in this week’s Walk in the Park article…

Our first stop, Starbucks! For right around $3.50 let’s get a warm ham and cheese “square.” It smells a lot like pizza – which is not a bad thing in my book. In fact I got so excited I took a bite before I remembered to snap a picture. Delicious!

It’s a little early, so nothing is open yet, but we can still get a look at some of the beautiful new storefronts.

Very soon, The Boathouse will offer fine dining, a bar and lounge, live entertainment, retail space and some pretty unique boating experiences. You will be able to have a tour of the Village Lake in an amphicar for $100. This 20 minute cruise will have seating for you, 2 friends, and boat captain. Yes, for that kind of money, you get a personal driver. Here are all the captains grouped together, chatting about opening day no doubt.

These amphicars can drive on land – and cruise through the water like a boat. Lately we have been getting sneak peeks of the vehicles as they are being tested.

Here is a portion of the beautiful new bridge.

We are already seeing signs of things to come.

The smell coming from Goofy’s Candy Company is amazing. As we take a few steps inside, we find the seasonal bunny apples and cake pops are on display.

There are suggestions of the new live-action Cinderella movie everywhere.

Of course the classic apples are here to! They never go out of style.

This Baymax apple is just too adorable!!

Here are the happiest chocolate covered apples ever! Oh to swim in a sea of mini M&M’s!

Haunted Mansion popcorn anyone?

Around the corner are cereal treats of all shapes and sizes!

Just outside is a gorgeous new Frozen Fever mural! I love the spring colors, don’t you?

Characters in Flight…Operated by Aerophile, ascends 400 feet in the air at its highest altitude. There is no better way to get a view of the construction going on around Disney Springs!

Here is our view looking out from the basket before takeoff.

During takeoff…

And from the highest altitude!

After about 8-10 minutes, we land back on the ground!

I hope you enjoyed this walk with me through Disney Springs (in the spring)! It is so exciting to look forward to all the fun things that are already in place, and dream about the things to come! See you next time…

A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – Springtime at Walt Disney World

By Krista Joy

Spring is in the air at Walt Disney World! There are so many new and wonderful things to see this time of year – it’s hard to stay in just one park! There’s no better time than now to hop (like the Easter Bunny!) around property and get a glimpse at some of the best things that spring has to offer at Walt Disney World! Let’s have a look around the resort in this week’s Walk in the Park

Let’s start our walk with the all-new breakfast at Be Our Guest restaurant in the Magic Kingdom! Disney is offering this test for a limited time – so we’d better “hop” to it!

Much like lunch, Be Our Guest breakfast is quick service, but you still need an advance reservation.

There’s a lot of controversy about spending $20 on breakfast – but you will not leave hungry I assure you!

Every adult entrée comes with a platter of pastries!

The pastry platter is not included on the kids’ menu. However, like at most quick service restaurants, you can order a child’s meal no matter how old you are.  So,  if there are 2 people in your party and one gets an adult meal, and one gets a child’s meal (like the bacon and eggs pictured here) you can share the pastries from the adult meal. This brings your cost per person down quite a bit.

Now that we’re full, let’s board the monorail and head on over to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. They have just completed the lobby’s fountain refurbishment by installing the little Tiki Man on top of the new centerpiece.

Now that we’ve seen the Poly’s new lobby, let’s go check out the Easter eggs on display at the Grand Floridian which are made completely out of chocolate! The smell as you walk into the lobby is absolutely wonderful. Just like they do every year, the chefs at Disney World have outdone themselves with the detailing and theming of these beautiful works of art.

It’s Flower and Garden Festival time at Epcot. The new Dooneys are on display in the Festival Center!

Another fun addition to the Flower and Garden Festival this year are the vendors along World Showcase! I really enjoyed meeting Chuck, who skillfully creates these amazing butterflies out of metal.

One of my favorite parts of the festival is the Tinker Bell Butterfly House, they sell tiny homes for the fairies that they place inside. Ronda from the Fairy House Ladies, handcrafts each one with love, and now you can buy one at Epcot to take home with you.

As the sun goes down, let’s head over to Hollywood Studios for a cocktail at the Brown Derby Lounge! This particular drink goes well with the meat and cheese board.

There’s nothing like a gorgeous sunset at Hollywood Studios! Take a look at Hollywood Boulevard – minus the hat.

Goodnight Sorcerer Mickey!!

What a great day at the Happiest Place On Earth…

A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – The Tree of Life

By Krista Joy

Construction walls around the Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom have been removed. The 145-foot-tall structure with its 103,000 leaves – has been the iconic symbol of the park since it opened in 1998. But now, it’s got some new roots! You’ll also find a widened walkway the next time you visit Discovery Island. Let’s take a walk around the tree to discover some new animal friends and visit some old favorites in this week’s Walk in the Park article…

Disney is investing hundreds of millions of dollars to expand the offerings at Walt Disney World’s fourth theme park, which has often been accused of being a “half-day park” in the past. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has always closed earlier than the resort’s other theme parks, partly because of the need to protect its animal residents from excessive noise. However, Disney is now working to install a new night-time show, and will begin opening the park until late.

The show will be hosted around and above the Discovery River and will feature live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. Confirmed to be named “Rivers of Light”, it is also expected to include the illumination of the iconic Tree of Life. That will involve replacing all 103,000 artificial leaves on the tree with new ones that light up. The new, expanded Tree of Life has been unveiled at the park recently and which we’ll see in a moment, however, it is unknown if this larger tree currently includes the technology that is being installed on the larger tree structure to prepare for this show. Only time will tell but all these new additions are certainly a welcome change to what is already a truly beautiful park!

Let’s have a look at those new roots:

A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – An Evening at the Magic Kingdom

By Krista Joy

The wonderful thing about Disney is that there is always more magic to discover or rediscover! Just when I think I have seen it all – there is another incredible experience just around the corner.  Travel with me today – as I share the latest edition of A Walk in the Park with Disney Avenue! You may just see some things you have never seen before as well…

Recently I had the amazing privilege of enjoying dinner at Be Our Guest with some of my closest friends.

This was wonderful in itself, but we had the added bonus of finishing up dinner quite a while after the Magic Kingdom had closed. The result … these amazing photos of the Magic Kingdom all to yourself – and after dark!

If you ever find yourself in the park after closing – get your photo taken in this spot! It will be a very special memory that you can have with you always!

This is how you close a Park!

A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – Peter Pan’s Flight Queue

By Krista Joy

Peter Pan’s Flight has been a favorite attraction of many Walt Disney World fans since 1971. The bathrooms near Peter Pan’s Flight closed when the Tangled facilities began construction in New Fantasyland, and since that time, we have been anticipating a new interactive (air-conditioned) queue. Personally, I am beyond thrilled that it has finally been completed and can’t wait to share it with all of you! Join us on this week’s A Walk in the Park article as we take a closer look at the new Peter Pan’s Flight queue enhancements…

You begin just outside the Darling’s home. According to Big Ben – it’s right around tea time – 4pm to be exact. You visit Nana, and see the rooftops of London. Next, you go down the hall passed portraits of the family. You really start to get a feeling of being inside the home. The ceilings are nice and low – and there is plenty of crown molding and other details that make you feel like Wendy, John, and Michael may have just stepped outside for a moment.

You go down the hall to travel through the nursery, pass the cabinet full of toys, and music from the movie plays softly all along the way. You encounter magical shadows, Tinker Bell, and even get sprinkled with “pixie dust” lighting that is absolutely beautiful and amazing. Look for all the tiny hidden details that Disney is famous for! The calendar on the wall says December 1901 – which also happens to be the month and year that Walt Disney himself was born.

I hope you enjoy these photos and videos – and if you’re like me – the next time you visit Walt Disney World – seeing a wait time in the double or even triple digits won’t seem like such a challenge when it comes to Peter Pan’s flight!

As we come to the conclusion of this week’s Walk in the Park article, here is a playlist containing 4 little videos I took in order to give you a better idea of the effects. See you in the parks!

– Krista

A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition – Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

By Krista Joy

Back in May of 2014, Walt Disney World announced plans for a name change and some pretty major enhancements to one of its most iconic Magic Kingdom resorts. Now re-branded as Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the location already shows signs of a new level of detail that only Disney can deliver. A major phase of the renovation has already been completed. Join us as we have a look at the new lobby in this week’s A Walk in the Park: WDW Edition article…

The lobby is now so much more open and modern – but the wonderful musty smell of the previous fountain definitely still remains. Once the Nanea Volcano pool area is completed, you will be able to see it along with an extensive view of the Seven Seas Lagoon – without even stepping foot out of this gorgeous lobby. There’s so much more to come for the Village, including an aquatic playground, a new hot tub with views of the Magic Kingdom, a Polynesian Pool Bar and Grill, and of course Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto! For now though, it is just wonderful to get a taste of what is to come when you breeze into this beautiful new area.

That about does it for this week’s Walk in the Park. Tell us what you think about the new lobby in the comments below. See you real soon!
